Jenna Schreiber, Executive Chef/Owner of 61 Main in Jasper, says this about her experience of relocating her restaurant “Over the past year and a half, we have had an overwhelming support from the people in this community and are excited for the opportunity to make our home in another historical building on Main Street. The move will open many doors as we gain the capacity to handle more local product and expand on our commitment to the “farm to table” concept.”
Jenna and 61 Main invites you to come check them out in the old Jasper Theatre at 49 South Main Street! 61 Main will officially shut their doors after dinner on Saturday, July 17th at their current location. Grand Re-Opening will be Thursday night, July 22 at 5pm for dinner. Reservations are going fast so give them a call at 706-253-7289 to reserve your table for premier night.
Jenna Schreiber grew up in Somerset, PA and was trained at the College of Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University in Charleston. After working in several of Charleston’s finest restaurants, she started on a 5 year journey as a private chef for a family. During this time, she learned new dishes and all about the preparation for her discerning clients and his customers.
She and her husband ended up moving to Jasper, and before Jenna knew it, she was the proud owner of a restaurant. She knew the restaurant business was what she eventually wanted to do, but she thought ‘a family’ would come first and then a restaurant. Well, she has done it backwards and has a restaurant, with the family to one day follow.
When you talked with Jenna, you can feel the passion that she has for what she does. Her ‘farm to table’ concept is real, cooking fresh with local produce and eating healthy with the season where she is utilizing as many of the local farmers/artisans and other food related businesses as possible, is what she does best. Keeping in mind the local community and the environment, Jenna buys locally as much as possible so that she is providing ‘fresh everything’ to her customers.
Many of her items are made in-house and fresh daily; the dressings, stocks, soups, desserts; pastries, cakes and pies. They even serve breakfast, except on Saturday mornings, beginning at 8am Monday through Friday but they do open at 10am on Saturdays. Prices are very reasonable, so definitely stop in and give them a try.
There are many local artisans that 61 Main utilizes, and just to name a few, Dig It Farm, Whitestone Farm, Foggy Hollow Coffee Roasters, Etcetera Farms, Wild Sage Farms, Destiny Organics, Riverview Farms, Mountain Valley Farm, and many, many local, small family farmers – who are un-named in this article. Jenna has this ‘open door’ approach for any farmer, if after the Farmers Market, you have extra produce, stop by and see Jenna. She definitely does not want to see good produce go bad and she is more than willing to take the extra off your hands.
If someone was wanting to start a local, organic farm and asked Jeanna what they should grow or specialize in, she would tell them in a heart-beat, ‘specialize in winter produce’. That way she could buy locally for her restaurant, all year long!
The idea of moving 61 Main to the Jasper Movie Theater building was more feasible for the restaurant as they have pretty much outgrown the 61 Main space. It’s not that she wants this huge restaurant, but she wants to accommodate a few more customers, comfortably, and separate the bar area, so there is a little more privacy there. She also wants to expand on her catering business. Organizing the kitchen area so she can hold more produce and local meats is a must as right now, as they have pretty much maxed out the kitchen at 61 Main.
“We are always open to comments, questions and suggestions, so please, do not hesitate to ask to speak with the chef. You are a key ingredient to what we can cook up at 61 Main!” -Jenna Schreiber
