April 2009 – Spring Storm in North Georgia!

On Friday afternoon, the weather radio went off telling us there were Tornado Warnings in Bartow County and the bad weather was heading east (toward us) at 45 miles per hour. I do not like the bad weather in the spring. I was trying to finish up for the day and get credit cards batched out and work orders and agreements faxed to my inspectors when the bad weather came in. I was rushing, trying to get done what I needed to do when all of a sudden, the weather hit and we lost power. Great! The wind was really howling and I called to my husband to come downstairs to the basement until this bad weather passed. The wind and rain was around for about 10 minutes, then it was over and what a path of destruction it left us in Bent Tree. Thankfully, there wasn’t much damage to our home but one of the homes next to us had a tree fall on their roof. The owners live out of state so we called security so they could inform the owners and their family, who live in Jasper. On our deck, the wind was so powerful that it moved our 6 chair, outdoor table about 15 feet across the deck and our glider about that same distance. There were tree limbs all over the deck, driveway and the yard (lots of clean up still to do) and when we drove through Bent Tree, with all the trees down, it looked like a war zone. Thank goodness there were no major injuries and the biggest thing is the clean up that we all need to do. Here is a video of the storm and bad weather coming in.
