Rumor has it…

One of the things that makes the Woodbridge Inn so special is the tight knit community of Jasper.  People come from all over the world to dine at the WB, and we’re proud to have them.  But if it wasn’t for the support of our locals, the place just wouldn’t be the same.

Growing up in the heart of downtown Jasper, I’ve experienced firsthand the powerful ebb and flow of local gossip.  Somehow the rumor is floating about that the Woodbridge Inn has closed.  I’ve had several people come up to me in the drugstore or at the market and say “I’m so sorry that you had to close the restaurant.”   What???  Closed??? I’m clueless as to how this rumor started, but let me be the first to say that we are OPEN! We’re open and we need your support, especially this time of year.  Come out and see us and help spread the word…we are OPEN!

The near future holds some exciting developments for the Woodbridge Inn…all in the name of keeping the Woodbridge Inn a part of your family for years to come.  Keep your eye out for our next newsletter and we should be able to share our news with you soon…

St. Valentine’s Day Reservations

If you haven’t made your reservations for Valentine’s Day yet, what are you waiting for?  The special day falls on a Tuesday this year, but the weekend prior is already starting to fill up as well.  If you’re looking for a special place to get away for the night or for the weekend, give us a call and let’s make that reservation.

Dear Friends,

Are you or a family member or a friend dealing with the disease Alzheimer’s? Such a horrific disease that leaves so much sadness in it’s wake; the Alzheimer’s patient, the caregiver and the family!

Did you know that there are currently 5.4 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease?  In January, the National Alzheimer’s Project Act was signed into law after being passed unanimously through Congress.  It is a law that requires the creation of a national strategic plan to address the rapidly escalating Alzheimer’s crisis and will coordinate Alzheimer’s disease efforts across the federal government.

The Alzheimer’s Association is seeking feedback about what should be included in the national plan so that they can make recommendations to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  I just shared my feedback; will you take a moment to do the same?

Our Goal Is To Raise $1,000.00 To Help The Children Of Iligan City Get Needed School Supplies…

On December 17, while we were enjoying our day and preparing for Christmas, Iligan City Philippines was hit by Typhoon Sendong (aka Typhoon Washi).

A very good friend of ours lives there and we want to help out.  She is part of the Relief Effort and has informed me that the children of Iligan City want to go back to school but have no school supplies. As a way to help out, we’re asking for donations to help provide school supplies for these children.

I’ve worked on the Pickens Relay For Life but never have done anything like this so I’m asking for your help. Please consider making a donation to help these Children. I know if the situation was reversed, I would want someone to help my child get back to school. Thank YOU!

The city still needs so much help. There is still so much displacement. Many just got their power turned back on today and many have no power at this time.

The Children of Iligan City want to get back to some normalcy and want to go back to school but they need ‘school supplies’. Will you please help with a donation?

Here is a little bit about Cody for those of you who don’t know him:

Cody Jones is a special, medically fragile 20 year old. He was born with many birth defects including a rare lung disease, heart problems and skeletal malformations; doctors said even with life support, Cody would only live a few weeks. He spent his first 5 1/2 months at Kennestone and ECOA before he was able to come home; he has had over 60 surgeries but, 20 years later, with the help of God and prayers from family and friends, Cody is doing great; facing challenges one day at a time. He continues to be dependent on oxygen and life support, but is now able to attend Pickens High School and will graduate in 2013.

So when you think you have problems or issues and Life is getting your down, look what this young man and his family has gone through – they are taking it One Day At A Time, and you can too!

It was a beautiful, crisp afternoon for the Jasper Merchants Association Night of Lights Celebration and Parade which was on the first Saturday in December in downtown Jasper, Georgia. Thanks to Know Pickens, the video starts out with the lighting of the Christmas tree in downtown Jasper, Georgia. Parade winners were: 1st Place & Best of Show – Hollywood FX, North Georgia Acting Company and Get To the Pointe Dance Studio; 2nd Place – Green Heating and Air; 3rd Place – Pickens County Chamber of Commerce.

“A Date Which Will Live in Infamy”: FDR Asks for a Declaration of War

The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941, stunned virtually everyone in the United States military. Japan’s carrier-launched bombers found Pearl Harbor totally unprepared. President Franklin Roosevelt quickly addressed Congress to ask for a declaration of war as illustrated in this audio excerpt. Although he never mentioned Europe or the fact that Germany had by then declared war on the United States, the Pearl Harbor attack allowed him to begin the larger intervention in the European war he had long wanted.
