Pickens Animal Rescue
Four local Girl Scout Troops come to the aid of Pickens Animal Rescue.
A classic example of “Pay It Forward” will unfold this Thursday, March 27th as Pickens Animal Rescue holds its first ever YAPPY HOUR a.k.a. Happy Hour for people and their dogs.
It started with Southern Home Inspections Services owners, Beth & Ken Compton, offering small cardboard houses to anyone who could find a use for them. Susan Catton, the recently appointed fundraising coordinator for P.A.R. (and always looking for new and fun ways to raise money for our local rescue group) said she’d take them. Not knowing there were more than 50 houses with the potential for many more, they sat in her garage waiting to become useful. Then along came a volunteer offer from local Scout leader, Amy Rice, to have her girls help P.A.R. in some way. BINGO! Let’s have the scouts paint these houses and use them for change donation containers for the rescue.
We now have 50 unique, one of a kind, custom painted houses that will be the new foundation of our “Give A Dog & Cat A Home” small donation containers. These will replace the round plastic tubes that have been seen around Pickens County at various locations. The colorful homes should remind people that with their spare change, they will help P.A.R. change the lives and futures of the 850 plus pets that are adopted into new and loving homes each year.
Please join us for his fundraising social time that will allow people to bring their well socialized dogs (on leashes) to an event to raise awareness and funds for Pickens Animal Rescue. YAPPY HOUR is from 5:30 – 7:30pm at the Pickens Chamber of Commerce Community building, located at 500 Stegall Drive. The requested donation is $25.00 for Adults, $5.00 for kids age 12 and under, $5.00 per dog. (cash, check or charge donations are accepted) Our Girl Scouts will be on hand to assist walking your dog while you enjoy refreshments and a chance to meet other PAR supporters and pet lovers.
