Last updated: Thursday, March 12, 2009

Last weekend there was a benefit held for Holly Mullins, the rain and bad weather kept the car and motorcycle show away. This weekend (March 7 2009) they had an extension to that first benefit and what a Beautiful Day it was. We had 70 degree weather, blue skies and a lot of wonderful people to show up for the benefit. The antique car show had over 130 antique cars and there were about 400 motorcycles. With so many people showing up for Holly, that has got to be a a positive sign that she is going to be Alright. That many prayers…we all know how powerful prayers are! God Bless You Holly!

A lot of people are praying for Holly Mullins, keep the prayers going.

3/11/2009 -

With scores of volunteers and countless businesses and individuals helping both financially and with their time, the benefit for Holly Cantrell Mullins has been a community effort like no other, organizers say.

This past weekend volunteers hosted a motorcycle ride and car show to help with Mullins’ medical bills as she battles a brain tumor called Glioblastoma Multiforme. Over 300 people participated in the motorcycle ride and the car show featured 139 classic cars. According to Mullins’ aunt and an organizer of the weekend’s events, Tammy Walker, a People’s Choice Award and awards for the top 10 of the show were presented.

“This has really been a community-wide event,” Walker said. “I don’t know how it got so big. Everybody has contributed and we’ve had so many volunteers. It’s just been amazing, unreal.”

Walker said people throughout the community have called asking if they could fix cake or volunteer for some of the events, showing support in every way possible.

“It’s just been truly wonderful,” she said. “There have been so many donations – businesses have donated and individuals have donated. And not just money. People have donated their time and resources. It was just tremendous. Everybody says Pickens County has never seen anything this big and they ask how it got so big and I don’t know. It was just a lot of family and friends getting together.” Walker said a benefit bike show is scheduled for Thursday evening, March 19 at Hooters in Canton where an award for People’s Choice will be given. Walker said t-shirts and bracelets will be sold during the show. For more information or to register contact Danny Godfrey.
