Here we are, the day after Christmas. My dad lives in Indiana and I don’t get home nearly as much as I’d like to. My dad is getting older too and I hate it that I don’t get to see him but only a couple of times a year.
Then this past fall, my husband presented me with a present that was the best present every. A video phone…Once I got my video phone, I just had to get my dad a video phone, which I did. And yesterday, on Christmas Day, I called my dad and talked with him for about 30 minutes. He was able to see me and I was able to see him and it was almost like being there with him. He even picked up his dog, Buddy, so I could see him too. We talked about all kinds of things and he told me what he’d been doing and how he’d been feeling. I promise, it was almost like being there.
One of the nice things is, my sister, who lives in South Bend, Indiana is planning to get a Video Phone also so she can call our dad but another reason why she w
ants a video phone is her daughter moved out to San Francisco last year and they don’t get to see each other much. But now that she is looking to get a video phone and her daughter would get a video phone, then they would be able to see each other every day until either my sister goes to San Francisco or her daughter comes back to South Bend. But of course, something else is my neises’ husband’s mother & father will need to get a video phone so they can talk with him. And then there is the brother who lives in Wisconsin and they will get a video phone (since they now have a brand new baby) so all can visit with them and see that new baby.
It is a spiraling effect, one person gets one, then another, then another and before you know it, there are 15 or 20 video phones out there and everyone gets to visit and see everyone else. Now of course, if you don’t have a video phone, you cannot see the other person, but you can still use your video phone as a regular phone.
Another great feature of this video phone is it works on VOIP (voice over IP). Most people have internet and all you do is plug your video phone up to your internet connect and you are able to make your calls, no long distance, and the monthly fee is around $25.
