Hi Beth,
I have sad news to report on Josie. Last Wednesday, Nov 19th, Dr. Chester had to do an emergency c-section on Josie. They knew it was risky but she was not able to birth the puppies on her own. She was old & weak. 11 puppies were successfully delivered. The sad new news is that aproximately 6 hours after surgery, Josie past away due to complications & her poor health.
The 11 puppies were immediately placed with Sarah. She is the hound that had given birth to 9 puppies on Nov 10th. Sarah accepted these new puppies and began caring for them the best she could. 20 puppies is nearly impossible for one mother to care for and provide enough milk for. AMC Staff and PAR Volunteers took turns trying to supplement and bottle feed these pups but it was difficult at best. Over the next 3 days, 6 of Josie’s puppies died. They were already frail due to their own mother’s poor health and not sucking.
Currently, there are 5 puppies still alive and seem to be thriving. Sarah’s own 9 pups are much bigger and stronger, so we have to make sure they take turns with the newest ones.
Please add these videos to your jasperpickenscountyga.com site so that people in our community can see that the PAR Volunteers are hard at work, saving one dog at a time and lots of puppies. Helping the abandoned pets in Pickens County is exhausting and heartbreaking. However, we have more wins than losses and that’s what keeps us going.
We need more financial support from our community. Taking care of Sarah and these 14 puppies, along with Josie’s medical bills is a huge financial burden on our rescue group. We need help now!!! People can make donations at the Rescued Furniture Store or on-line at www.pickensanimalrescue.org
Now that it’s getting colder, we are also receiving dozens of calls each week from people wanting us to take in stray dogs and cats. If anyone has questions or ideas to provide additional sources of help, please call Susan at 770-894-7037. I will return your call.
WE DO THIS BECAUSE THEY CAN’T SAVE THEMSELVES.
