Lori Pieraerts, President of the Pickens County Anti-Drug Coalition talks about the mission statement for Pickens County Anti-Drug Coalition -

MISSION STATEMENT:

Serve as information leaders inspired to coach and motivate our county to work toward becoming a drug free community.

PURPOSE:

To aggressively combat the substance abuse epidemic in Pickens County by providing the most current information to the entire community via all individual and group efforts in the battle against the abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drug use. And to find preventive as well as rehabilitative resources for all citizens affected by substance abuse.

ACTIVITIES:

*Red Ribbon Drug Prevention Week (October)

*Pickens County Drug & Alcohol Recovery Celebration (September)

*Sponsorship of anti-drug speakers in schools

*Substance abuse prevention booth, Lions Club 4th of July Celebration

*Co-Sponsor for Dog Day in the Park, April 18 (to raise funds for the Sheriff’s Office to purchase & maintain a drug dog)

*Supporters of the Drug Free Pickens march in April 2007

*Sponsor of anti-alcohol presentations at Pickens High School during Prom Week

*Raising funds to support substance abuse prevention programs for children and youth such as CHAMPS, a Sheriff’s Office/School partnership for a substance abuse prevention program for all Pickens County fifth grade students
