Joel Keys – Winner of the First Ever Pickens County Biggest Loser
Have you every watched the Biggest Loser on TV? Have you ever wondered, does that really work? Well let me tell you, it does!
In January, the First Ever Pickens County Biggest Loser competition was started. It was a 13 week weight-loss/exercise program where 12 contestants worked out with personal trainers, doing water aerobics, working with a nutritionist and just an overall renewal on their way of life. For 13 weeks they met with their group and worked together. They wore their Biggest Loser t-shirt, Red or Blue, when out and about in Pickens County and in a way, became celebrities.
On Saturday evening, April 18th at the Jasper Middle School gym, the Grand Finale’ for the First Ever Pickens County Biggest Loser Competition was held. All the contestants, their personal trainers, their motivators, team leaders, sponsors, family and friends attended the event to show their support and find out who the winner of the competition was!
Joel Keys was announced as the winner by losing a total of 79 pounds, going from 261 pounds down to 182. What an accomplishment Joel! Check this out!

Joel, you cannot imagine all the comments that people have written throughout the competition about how well you have done and how proud they were of you. How you have really stuck with the diet and exercise and totally put your heart and soul into getting healthier and stronger. We are all very proud of you and the whole group of the First Ever Pickens County Biggest Losers.

Everyone involved had a great time, made lasting friendships and incorporated good health and nutrition into the lifestyle. We truly appreciate Connie Dixon and Tania Clark for the idea of the Pickens County Biggest Loser and lastly, Connie, for the hard work and endless hours that it took to put together and keep going the Biggest Loser competition. There is a lot of behind the scenes that goes on to put together something like this and keep it running. There was so much support from the community for the competitions, we thank ETC (Dave Gardner) for their exposure on Wednesdays, for the Pickens Progress, WYYZ am 1490 and for everyone who had a part, big or small, in the First Ever Pickens County Biggest Loser.
