Dear Community Stake Holder,
Last year, there were 416 domestic disputes and 26 domestic violence arrests in Pickens County (Sheriff’s Office web site). 113 people in Georgia died from incidents of domestic violence. We have learned that domestic violence task forces save lives and reduce crimes. We need help in getting our family violence task force re-established in our county. By law, the Commission is required to establish domestic violence task forces in each circuit. These task forces bring together all of the people who are involved in family violence issues (advocates, law enforcement, probation, court personnel, etc.).
On behalf of the Pickens County Domestic Violence Task Force, we would like to invite you to a Community Stake Holders Luncheon, January 27th at 11:30pm until 1:00pm. The Luncheon will be held at the Crust Restaurant and the cost will be $10.00 per person. The guest speaker will be Jennifer Thomas. She will be discussing community response to domestic violence and the purpose of a local task force. Ms. Thomas is the Statewide Task Force Coordinator of the Georgia Commission on Family Violence.

We would like to invite you to participate in this endeavor. Your involvement is vital to the success of coordinating your community’s response to domestic violence. If the task force is successful and receives support from the appropriate people, I believe you are going to see the number of criminal and domestic violence cases in your circuit decline.
