Come on Pickens County voters, let’s get out and vote early – go by the Pickens County Administration and cast your early vote for the May 11th election! Be responsible and Vote Early!!! If you cannot vote early, be sure to get up there on Tuesday, May 11th and Vote!!! Your vote does count!

Here are a couple of reasons why you should vote early -

1-very few lines. You will usually get in and out within 5 minutes

2-the easier it is to vote, the more people will go. Your vote does matter. Please vote – that way the election will truly represent the People at large.

3-fewer problems with registration. If there happens to be a problem with your registration, you can fix it before the Election Day.

Voters in Pickens can cast early ballots at the County Admin building until May 7th for the special election scheduled on May 11th.

The election will give voters two races to decide:

9th Congressional District
Chris Cates, Tom Graves, Lee Hawkins, Bert Loftman, Eugene Moon, Bill Stephens and Steve Tarvin appear on the ballot. Mike Freeman’s name will appear on the ballot, but he has announced his withdrawal from the race.

State Representatives from General Assembly District 12
Rick Jasperse, Truett Moss, Jerry Nally are on the ballot.

Julianne Roberts, the superintendent of elections in Pickens County, said she did not foresee a very strong turnout. As of last Friday, only 35 people had used early voting.

“It will be a low turnout,” Roberts said. “I don’t know about record-breaking low. The candidates will make a last minute push to get the vote out.”

On May 11th, all regular polling locations will be open for Pickens County’s 18,250 registered voters. They will need to have picture identification to vote. Roberts said you can use an expired or current Georgia Driver’s license, but any other form of identification must be valid and current.

Roberts encouraged voters to look at the Georgia Secretary of State’s website, www.sos.ga.gov that has very comprehensive information. That information includes a person’s registration status, a poll locator and a sample ballot. Once on the site, users can click on the “my voter page” to access their personal information.

In a brief statement made to NorthGaPolitics.com, Jasper Postmaster Rick Ballew said he has withdrawn from the State House District 12 race. Ballew said he still has political intentions and will make some type of statement in the future.
