Sydney’s First Snowfall in 170 Years!
Ken and I have a very good friend from Australia, Howard Tinker, and Howard came to Jasper to visit us in February 08. Here is a quick video of Howard while he was here. This video was taken off our deck in Bent Tree and the weather in Jasper, a few days before Howard arrived, was starting to warm up and the temperatures were in the mid to high 60′s. When Howard arrived, the temperatures plummeted…to freezing temperatures of about 15 to 20 degrees…watch this short video…
Now today, Sunday, July 27, 2008 (which is Monday, July 28 in Australia) they are having what we had back in February, cold temperatures and SNOW – something people in Australia have not seen in 170 years…
Here is their news report -
Snowmen seen in Sydney suburbs

(please be patient while the news video boots up)
For the first time since 1836 it has snowed in Sydney – at least that’s what the locals are saying.
More snow – or soft hail – is predicted today.
I know this is something that Howard and his family are going to remember for a very long time. We get snow here in Georgia each winter but for the Australians, to get snow in their lifetime, people from Australia are amazed.
