The Flat Stanley Brothers visit Jasper, Georgia

My husband and I had been gone away for about 10 days and when we got home, I checked our mail and we had not one, but two flat Stanleys that had come to visit us. Now most of you will ask, what is a flat Stanley and what are two flat Stanleys??? Flat Stanley is a story about a boy…well, let me let you read the letters that were sent with the flat Stanley brothers from Jonathan and Kalab Taflinger from Southern Indiana.

A little insight – Stanley Lambchop and his younger brother Arthur are given a big bulletin board by their Dad for putting pictures and posters on. He hangs it on the wall over Stanley’s bed, but during the night the board falls from the wall, flattening Stanley in his sleep. He survives and makes the best of his altered state, and soon he is entering locked rooms by sliding under the door, and playing with his younger brother by being used as a kite. Stanley even helps catch some art museum sneak thieves by posing as a painting on the wall. But one special advantage is that Flat Stanley can now visit his friends by being mailed in an envelope. Eventually Arthur, who tires of all the attention Stanley has been getting, reverts Stanley to his proper shape through an air pump used for footballs.

The flat Stanley brothers have had a great time while visiting their Aunt Beth and Uncle Ken in Jasper, Georgia. The evening that they arrived, they got to visit with Ms Annie, our Boston Terrier, who was very patient with them.flat-stanley-and-annie-web

That first evening was very chilly so they enjoyed being in front of the warm woodstove.flat-stanley-brothers-in-front-of-woodstove

And they were able to go to the Georgia Marble Festival parade and to the Festival itself. After all that fun, they even went shopping at the Kroger grocery store.

Thanks for your comments Janet about the flat Stanley brothers and your flat Stacy. I think this is a great thing for young people, especially when we send back to the all the activities the flat ‘whomevers’ have while visiting. It gives the young people a vision of a totally different area.

    Hi Ya’ll,
My Flat Savannah came for a visit a few summers ago. She lived in MN and wanted to visit the state where her “name sake” was from. We had a busy month long visit but never made it all the way to Savannah, GA. It was fun taking her with me & we got lot of good photos too.

My nephew attends Kindergarten at Tate Elementary. Flat Stanley came to visit us in Griffin, Georgia the week of the Labor Day Race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Since I run the Credential building at the Speedway, Flat Stanley got to experience night racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway!! Met a few race car drivers, hung out in the Media Center, hung around in the pits while the race was going on…

I think this is a wonderful project for children – to visit outside their hometown without leaving their classroom.
